| Bio: | Character InformationCharacter Name(s): Jade Armstrong Nicknames/Aliases: N/A Gender: F Race: Vampire Character Age: 29 Date of Birth: July 15, 1978 Date of Death/Turning: January 1, 2008 Physical Description: Jade is 5'6" and slender in build at 118 pounds. She has green eyes and medium-length blonde hair which she tends to wear loose when she isn't working, and when she was human, she tanned easily whenever she spent any time in the sun. Now, since she was turned in the middle of winter, her skin is uniformly pale. She's considered attractive, but that isn't something that has ever mattered to her, though she isn't averse to using it to turn events in her favor. Her clothing, outside of the dark suits she's required to wear for work, consists of an odd amalgam of styles and fabrics, generally accented by one or more pieces of the jewelry she makes as a hobby. Distinguishing marks: Jade has a tattoo of a small shower of stars on the back of her left shoulder. PB: Kate Hudson Birth Location: Sedona, Arizona Personality: Jade is fiercely and independently herself at all times. She has no patience with those who prevaricate or tailor their reactions to fit what they think those around them might want. She's straightforward with a quick wit that runs toward the off-color side, and she's able to use charm to assist her in her chosen career of hotel management. She tends to be a problem solver, forging ahead in terse situations and making decisions without hesitation. When it comes to work and the ordinary details of everyday life, she's highly confident. She's a restless person who has trouble being still, always feeling the need to rush from one place to the next, one activity to the next. That restlessness can apply to her emotional state as well; she wouldn't necessarily put it into words, but she has the constant feeling that there has to be something better out there for her, something just out of reach. She aspires to reach her personal best in every way: physically, mentally, healthwise and careerwise. However, Jade is a frustrated perfectionist because she has the tendency to misplace things and to be forgetful. She's an inveterate list-maker, which is the main way she stays on top of things at work. She has a softer side, but it isn't shown to very many people. Shaped by the abrupt departure of her mother, who left the family when Jade was seven, she is wary of closeness and doesn't trust easily, always fearing that she will be once again left, put aside and never thought of again. She enjoys making friends, both of a romantic nature and otherwise, but she tries to keep her emotions very much on the surface. Light, breezy, reducing the risk of being hurt as much as she can. Unfortunately for Jade, she has a weakness for trouble, intrigue, and bad boys that can't be denied. Now that she has become a vampire, she finds it easier to hide any feelings of vulnerability, and she's a little more hard-edged and quite a bit less moral than she was before. Personal Background: Jade was born to Austin and Janna Armstrong in July of 1978 in the artistic and creative mecca of Sedona, Arizona. She was the third child born to the artsy iconoclasts, who among other idiosyncracies didn't give their children middle names. Austin and Janna made their living running an art gallery that featured Austin's sculptures and paintings among those of other local artists. Janna had a head for the business side, and she kept the books and oversaw the day to day practicalities of operating a store. Leo, Teddy and Jade were in and out of the gallery from the apartment upstairs from very young ages, and they learned the concept of look but don't touch a lot earlier and more solidly than most children. Janna Armstrong had given birth to her first child at the age of seventeen, and married the next year, and she gradually began to feel as if she'd missed out on life. It wasn't that she didn't love her husband and children dearly, she told herself. She was only restless, and having just turned thirty, she worried that she would run out of time if she sat stagnant any longer. For the most part, she kept her dissatisfaction to herself, trying to talk herself out of the thoughts and plans that were brewing in her mind. She was quiet and distracted, but she went about the tasks of being a wife and mother and running the gallery without a hitch. Until one day, shortly after her youngest child's seventh birthday, she packed up her car late at night and departed before daybreak, leaving a note for Austin so he'd know she'd left of her own free will. Perhaps it was only for a while, to experience life in a way she never had, to see and do new things. It would have been impossible to know for sure, since Janna did not return. A few months after her disappearance, her car was sold to a dealership in San Diego, California; however, the private investigator Austin hired found no traces of her. The new family of four managed as best they could, though Jade was insecure for a long while afterward that she might get up one morning and somebody else would be gone. Privately, the lesson she took from the incident was that anyone could leave you at any time, with no warning. It was a hard lesson for a child to learn, but she did her best to keep her feelings inside. She didn't want her daddy and her brothers to be sad, and they would be if she was, she thought. As she grew up, she did her best to help with the family business; by the time she was in high school, she was doing the books for the gallery. She was intelligent and had the same affinity for business that her mother'd had, and once she'd graduated from Red Rock High School, she opted to study management and marketing at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. At the age of twenty-two, her new degree in hand, she accepted a job at a mid-range hotel in Seattle. Since she had no actual hotel experience, she had to start out as a desk clerk, learning the basics of the industry. She moved into a nearby apartment complex, where she would live for the next five years as she worked her way up toward her ultimate goal of hotel management. Jade kept herself busy between work, her hobbies of running and making jewelry, socializing at local clubs and the occasional visit home to Arizona. She had a couple of relationships that were fairly short-lived, priding herself on being practical and not overly emotional about them when they ended. She'd seen the damage that love could do, and she didn't want that for herself. However, she hadn't counted on meeting anyone like Tavin Luvic. He was more than a decade older, wild, sarcastic, abrasive and completely unpredictable. All in all, nothing that an upwardly mobile career girl should ever want. But she did. Jade fell hard despite the fact that often, the stories he told her didn't add up, and he was unwilling to explain the way he disappeared every so often. Their relationship was intense, sometimes contentious, white-hot... and ultimately doomed. Both stubborn and hard-headed, they'd fought quite a bit, but they'd always smoothed it over before. Not this time. After another bitter argument, Jade figured they'd work things out and get back together, but Tavin cut her loose and vanished from her life. It felt like one more abandonment, which was the worst thing that anyone could do to Jade, and it temporarily crushed her. At the age of twenty-seven, she packed her things and quit her latest job, heading home to Arizona for a break and a reality check. She needed time to remind herself why love was, ultimately, the biggest lie of all. It was for other people, not her. She never wanted to be hurt that way again. She lived with her dad for several months in the apartment above the gallery where she'd grown up, taking long hikes among the red rocks of Sedona, making jewelry and building up her emotional armor again. Feeling stronger, better and ready to get back to her faster-paced life in Seattle, Jade secured a position as an assistant manager trainee at the Grand Hyatt. It was a different job, a different place to live, and a new start, she told herself. She quickly reconnected with her friends and set to work with a will, making her way through her time as a trainee and, at twenty-nine, becoming one of four assistant managers. She was back on track, leaving behind things best forgotten. Of course, for Jade and her gift for calamity, it could never be quite that simple. Just after Thanksgiving, she ran into Tavin again at the Grand Hyatt, and the meeting left her shaken and internally cursing the fact that she'd been lying to herself all along about getting over him. Not long after, they had yet another random meeting at Chinatown, Jade yet again damned her foolish heart and redoubled her determination to forget he'd ever existed. He made no efforts to seek her out, though he now knew where she lived and worked, and she told herself it was for the best. She threw herself into the Christmas season, attending parties and making a week-long visit home to be with her family. She returned to Seattle just in time for the New Year's Eve fetes, and she dressed in her finest and most flattering outfit to make the rounds that evening. This would be a much better New Year, she promised herself. Famous last words? In a way, yes. Jade had received an invitation to a party at a hotel much more exclusive than the Grand Hyatt, and she made it her last stop of the night. Not long before midnight, she began chatting with a charming, sophisticated-looking dark-haired man. There was something about him that intrigued her, though he seemed different from her usual type. The two saw the New Year in together in the midst of the crowded party, and some time later she agreed to go upstairs with him. She found that the gentleman in question was indeed suave and passionate, as she'd expected-- and he was also a vampire. Jade had always thought that the legends of vampires, demons and other such creatures were just that. Legends. However, she found out the hard way that she'd been completely wrong about that. She wasn't certain how she felt about what he'd done to her; she was too much in shock and trying to adjust to her enhanced senses and her body's undeniable craving for blood. Before she had the chance to figure anything significant out, she awakened a couple of evenings later to find that her Sire had gone, without a word and without a forwarding address. Jade had all the luck, didn't she? Yet another man who could so easily walk away from her. But what else could she do but go on with her life, such as it was now? She worked at night, so that wasn't a problem. She only had to remember not to smile too widely at her co-workers and hotel guests. As she resumed her usual activities, with the additions of feeding and trying to locate her Sire with the scant information she had about him, she began to appreciate her new state of being. She felt stronger, more adept, more able to deal with any challenges that came along. Also, she could feel the connection to her Sire, and she knew that he was somewhere nearby, probably a resident of Seattle. She knew that she would find him eventually, and she looked forward to that day. Family: Father, Austin Lee Armstrong, 60, and two brothers, Leo, 32, and Theodore, 35. Sire, Anthony Pastorelli.
